The Ministry of Agriculture has notified the Insecticides (Sixth Amendment) Rules, 2023, to further amend the Insecticides Rules, 1971. Pest Controllers (using only Glyphosate and its derivatives in their operations) applying for grant of license are mandated to undergo training programme meant exclusively for Glyphosate usage from a list of institutions where all applicant Pest Controllers must undergo their 15-day training to receive their training certificate.
Key Highlights:
1. Applicants for grant of license as pest controllers are required to be a graduate in Agriculture or in Science or in Life Science with Chemistry as a subject with a certificate of minimum 15 days training from Central Good Technological Research Institute, Mysore or Indian Grain Storage Management and Research Institute, Hapur and National Institute of Plant Health Management, Hyderabad.
2. Further, Pest Control Operators using only Glyphosate and its derivatives for their operations are required to undergo a training programme exclusively for Glyphosate usage, in any of the following institutions:
a. any State Agricultural University;
b. Krishi Vigyan Kendra’
c. National Institute of Plant Health Management, Hyderabad
d. State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute;
e. Central or State Agricultural Research Institute;
f. any other Government recognized University or Institute; or
g. Central or Regional Integrated Pest Management Center,
with National Institute of Plant Health Management as the implementing Nodal Agency for course curriculum and monitoring of the training programme.
