Amendments underway to the Payment of Wages (Haryana Amendment) Bill, 2016; payments to be credited to employees’ bank accounts

The Haryana Labour Department has issued two draft notifications (“Notifications”), dated 12th December, 2018, by way of the Payment of Wages (Haryana Amendment) Bill, 2016 proposing to amend the implementation of the Payment of Wages Act, 1936 (“Act”) in the State of Haryana.

The Notifications propose the following amendments for the State of Haryana:

  • ‘Establishments’ defined under Section 2(1)(viii) of the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958 has been proposed to be included within the meaning of the terms “industrial or other establishment” under the Act in its application in Haryana;
  • All the employers of the industrial establishments covered under sub section (ii) of section 2 of the Act, in its application in Haryana, would have to pay wages to the persons employed by directly crediting the wages in their bank accounts
