DPCC prohibits use of diesel generator sets in Delhi from 15th October, 2018 to 15th March, 2019, in light of poor air conditions in Delhi

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (“DPCC”) has, in a notice dated 12th October, 2018, directed all industries in Delhi to stop using diesel generator sets from 15th October, 2018 to 15th March, 2019.

Background:

The air quality of Delhi and the NCR deteriorates to very poor quality during the winter season and the whole of the Union Territory of Delhi was declared as air pollution control area by the Ministry of Environment and Forest by a Notification [G.S.R. 106(E)] dated 20th February, 1987 under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) (Union Territories) Act, 1981.

Moreover, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on 12th January, 2017 for controlling air pollution levels in Delhi and the NCR.

In light of the Notification and the GRAP, the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority issued a list of activities to be undertaken in Delhi, between 15th October, 2018 to 15th March, 2019, to control air pollution, which is in addition to the prohibition on usage of DG Sets.
