FSSAI issues directions under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 providing relaxation w.r.t compliance with provisions relating to six monthly testing report of food products during nation-wide lockdown

In an Order dated 18th June, 2020, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has issued directions under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 providing certain relaxation with regard to compliance with provisions relating to six monthly testing report of food products during nation-wide lockdown as stipulated under the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.

Considering the difficulties faced by the food business operators in six monthly testing of food products and maintenance of records, FSSAI has decided that food business operators will not be penalized if they have not maintained the records during the lockdown period. However, the said compliance has to be ensured within 2 months after the lockdown is over.
