Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has issued a notice dated 28th September, 2017 requiring –
- All Food Business Operators (“FBOs”), who had applied for approval of their products prior to the discontinuation of the product approval system, to submit additional documents/information as per requirements of Food Safety and Standards (Approval of Non-Specified Food and Food Ingredients) Regulations, 2017 (which came into force on 11th September, 2017) quoting their previous application number. The FSSAI clarified that additional fees were not required to be paid by such FBOs.
- All new applicants, seeking prior approval of non-specified food and food ingredients, to submit Form I duly filled, along with fees of Rs. 50,000 (Fifty Thousand Only) payable to Senior Accounts Officer, FSSAI.
Product approval system through advisories of non-standardized food products/ingredients was discontinued from 26th August, 2015. Later, the FSSAI notified the Food Safety and Standards (Approval of Non-Specified Food and Food Ingredients) Regulation, 2017, specifying the procedures, terms and conditions, etc., governing the approval of such products on 11th September, 2017.
