Government of Tripura notifies amendment to enhance penalty under the Tripura Shops & Establishment Act and to ensure high standard of hygiene and sanitation in such premises, effective 18.12.2019

In a Gazette Notification dated 18th December 2019, the Tripura Government has notified the Tripura Shops and Establishments (Sixth Amendment) Rules, 2019 (“2019 Rules”) which is amending the Tripura Shops and Establishments Rules, 1970 (“Principal Rules”).

The 2019 Rules have come into force on 18th December 2019 i.e. the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

The Draft Rules were previously published in a Notification dated 14th October, 2019.

Now, the penalty for contravening any provisions of the Rules has been enhanced. For first conviction, the fine will be increased from Rs. 100/- to Rs. 200/-. For continuous offence the fine is increased from Rs. 25/- per day to Rs. 50/- per day.

The Government of Tripura in order to take a step ahead to boost the Swachh Bharat mission has introduced a new Rule mandating all shops / establishments to provide adequate number of dustbins located at conspicuous spaces to ensure hygiene and to set high sanitation standards in the State.
