Maharashtra Government reduces the rate of electricity duty levied on industrial consumption from 9.30% of the consumption charges to 7.50% of the consumption charges; effective from the billing month of August, 2020

In a recent Gazette Notification the Industries, Energy and Labour Department, Maharashtra (“Department”) has reduced the rate of electricity duty levied and paid in respect of the consumption of energy for industrial purposes.

The reduction is becoming effective from the billing month of August, 2020.

The reduction is reflected in the table provided below.

Background:

In a Previous Notification dated 21st October, 2016 the Department had fixed the rates at which the electricity duty will be levied and paid in respect of the consumption of energy by various categories of consumers under the provisions of the Maharashtra Electricity Duty Act, 2016.

Now, through the present notification, the rate of electricity levied on industrial consumption is being reduced from 9.30 percent of the consumption charges to 7.50 percent of the consumption charges.
