MIDC waives off Environment Protection Service Charge charges / fees on “Green” and “White” category of industries, effective

Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (“MIDC”) by a Circular dated 29th September, 2020 has waived off Environment Protection Service Charge (“EPSC”) / fees levied on “Green” and “White” category of industries along with interest, if any, charged w.e.f. 1st February, 2000 irrespective of the fact that the “Green” and “White” unit has become a nominal member of the CETP in their area. Further, if any EPSC is recovered, it will be given credit in the subsequent monthly water bill.

Earlier only “Green” category of industries were exempted from EPSC charges / fees.

Background

The Ministry of Environment and Forests has released a new categorization of industries according to which industries which pollute the most have been put in the “Red” category while moderately polluting units have been classified as “Orange” industries, industries which have significantly low pollution load have been categorized in the “Green” category and those who operate without causing any pollution have been categorized as “White” by the Ministry.
