Ministry of Road Transport and Highways rolls out Central Motor Vehicles (Tenth Amendment) Rules, 2020; specifies safety requirements for CNG/ Bio-CNG/ HCNG vehicles

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways notified further amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (“Rules”).

The amended Rules will be called the Central Motor Vehicles (Tenth Amendment) Rules, 2020 and have been in force w.e.f. 25th September, 2020.

Key Highlights –

1. In Rule 115 relating to “Emission of smoke, vapour, etc. from motor vehicles” specification of reference / commercial fuels, the reference fuel Hydrogen Enriched Compressed Natural Gas (“HCNG”) will be as per IS 17314:2019 and will be amended from time to time.

2. Also, the CNG / Bio-CNG / HCNG Vehicles will have to meet all the safety requirements as per AIS 024, AIS-028 Revision 1 as applicable.
