Punjab Govt. directs all non-essential shops to remain closed on Sundays and close by 5 pm on Saturdays, no inter-district movement except for essential/medical needs, marriage functions allowed with e-passes for 50 persons

In order to check community spread of COVID-19, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Punjab (“Directorate”) has issued an Order dated 12th June, 2020, approving detailed weekend and holiday restriction guidelines for the State.

The Directorate has informed that

i. only shops, dealing with essential commodities and services, will be allowed to operate on all days of the week till 7 pm.

ii. Shops, whether standalone or in shopping malls, will be required to remain closed on Sundays, while on Saturdays they can operate only till 5 p.m.
In addition to the Sunday closure, the District Magistrates can, in consultation with the respective market associations, order closure of the non-essential shops on any other day of the week also, especially in the high-risk areas where the cases are high.

iii. Restaurants (for take home/home delivery only) and liquor shops will be allowed to remain open till 8.00 P.M on all days.

iv. Inter-district movement will be allowed only against e-pass, which will be issued only for essential work. However, the Directorate has clarified that no pass will be required for such travel in case of medical emergency.

v. E-pass will also be required for marriage functions and such passes will be issued only for 50 specific persons.
