Tamil Nadu makes it mandatory to obtain e-passes for inter-district travels, even within a particular zone

In a Notification dated 24th June, 2020, the Revenue and Disaster Management (DM-II) Department, Government of Tamil Nadu (“State Government”), has notified that e-passes will be mandatory for all inter-district travel, including within the zones. Further, public transport will run only within the districts from 25th June, 2020 to 30th June, 2020.

Background:

The State Government had, in an earlier Notification dated 31st May, 2020, had divided the entire State of Tamil Nadu into 8 zones and stated that all inter-district movement within those respective zones and intra-district movement within Greater Chennai Police jurisdiction, would be permitted without an e-pass.

Thus, the State Government has made it mandatory to obtain e-passes for inter-District travel, even if those districts are within one zone.
