Uttar Pradesh Government announces ban on use, manufacture, sale, distribution, storage, transport, import or export of plastic items

In a notification dated 15th July, 2018, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh has announced ban on the use, manufacture, sale, distribution, storage, transport, import or export of plastic items.

This ban is announced  in exercise of the powers under the Uttar Pradesh Plastic and Non–Bio degradable Garbage (Regulation) Act, 2000.

This notification is yet to be published in the Official Gazette. The items on which ban has been announced are effective on / from different dates.

This ban has been announced for the Nagar Panchayat, Nagar Palika, Nagar Nigam or Industrial Township.

  1. Manufacture, sale, distribution, storage, transport, import or export of plastic carry bags of thickness less than 50 microns and disposable plastic carry bags of thickness of 50 microns or without registration name and number of the manufacturer is in force with immediate effect.
  2. Manufacture, sale, distribution, storage, transport, import or export of one time-use disposable plastic or thermocol cups, glasses, plates, spoons, tumblers etc. is prohibited from August 15, 2018.
  3. Manufacture, sale, distribution, storage, transport, import or export of all kinds of disposable plastic carry bags is prohibited from October 2, 2018.

The ban also lists down the authorities who have the jurisdiction to look into matters pertaining to the ban.
