Haryana Government issues the Haryana Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act 2025; removes leprosy from the list of specified dangerous diseases

The Haryana Government has issued the Haryana Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act 2025 (“Amendment”) to further amend the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act 1994 (“Principal Act”). The Amendment has removed “leprosy” from the list of *dangerous disease, specified within the definition of dangerous disease in the Principal Act.

*As per Section 2(8) of Haryana Municipal Corporation Act 1994, “dangerous disease” means-

(a) cholera, plague, chicken-pox, small-pox, tuberculosis, leprosy, enteric fever, cerebrospinal, meningitis and diphtheria; and

(b) any other epidemic, endemic or infectious disease which the Commissioner may, by notification in the Official Gazette, declare to be dangerous disease for the purposes of this Act.
