Tamil Nadu Govt. proposes amendments to the Factories Rules; amendment pertains to certification of persons in charge of first-aid-box in factories; public comments invited till 13th August, 2022

The Government of Tamil Nadu has proposed amendments to the Tamil Nadu Factories Rules, 1950 (“Principal Rules”) and has invited comments and suggestions from the public.

The draft amendment will be taken into consideration on 13th August, 2022 i.e. after the expiry of 45 days from the date of publication of this notification in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette. Objections and suggestions, if any, should be addressed in duplicate to the Secretary to Government, Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department, Chennai-600 009, through the Director of Industrial Safety and Health, 47/1- Thiru Vi.Ka. Industrial Estate, Guindy, Chennai-32.

Proposed Changes:

Presently, Rule 63 B of the Principal Rules states that persons in charge of first-aid box should be holding a certificate granted by the St.John’s Ambulance Association for rendering first-aid.

With the draft amendment, Tamil Nadu Government has proposed that persons in charge of first-aid box should be holding a certificate granted either by the St.John’s Ambulance Association or Tamil Nadu Apex Skill Development Centre for Health Care for rendering first-aid.

In line with this, similar changes are proposed in :
1. Schedule XVII of Rule 95 of the Principal Rules which deal with Manufacture of Dichromates
2. Schedule XXIV of Rule 95 of the Principal Rules which deal with Fire Works Manufactories and Match Factories
