Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region prohibits the use of wood as industrial fuel with immediate effect

The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region ( “Commission”) prohibited the use of wood as industrial fuel with immediate effect.

Wooden logs / wood blocks etc. are being used as fuel for industrial applications, in the garb of “Biomass Fuels” in Industrial units in National Capital Region ( “NCR”). It needs to be particularly taken note by all concerned that “Wood” per-se is not an approved fuel for industrial application. Wood is an approved fuel limitedly for religious purposes and use in crematoria.

“Biomass Fuels” as referred to in the above comprise of all type of biomass which could be utilised for deriving suitable calorific value for various applications and include agricultural crop residue, straw, husk etc. Further, wood processed wastes such as wooden chips, waste wood, saw dust etc. have also been permitted under the broader category of biomass fuels.

Any Non-compliance to this direction will face closure besides strict penal action.
