Maharashtra Labour Department declares authority for the purpose of the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act, 2017 and mandates display of name boards in Marathi by all shops and establishments

The Industries, Energy and Labour Department of Maharashtra (“Department”) has declared Nagar Panchayats constituted under the provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Industrial Townships Act, 1965 and panchayats established or deemed to have been established under the Maharashtra Village Panchayats Act to be the local authorities for the purpose of Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017. (“Act”)

Further, the Department has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in addition to all other Corporations, Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and village panchayats to ensure display of their Name Board in Marathi as per the provisions of the Act in the areas within their territorial jurisdiction with immediate effect.
