CPCB launches EPR Portal for Registration of Producers under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022; lays down SOP for submission of online application

The Central Pollution Control Board (“CPCB”) has recently launched the Extended Producer Responsibility (“EPR”) Portal for Registration of Producers under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022 (“Rules”). The portal is available at (www.eprbatterycpcb.in). The Producers of all types of batteries regardless of chemistry, shape, volume, weight, material composition and use are required to apply on the portal for grant of Registration under the Rules.

A Standard Operating Procedure (“SoP”) for submission of online application through the portal has also been issued which lays down the following:

  1. The process of application includes filing of the same in 6 parts which includes the General information of Producer, the Information on the Type of Battery, the Addition of Sales Data, the Addition of Battery Material, the uploading of required Documents and the payment of Fees;
  2. Applications under process for grant of Registration are required to be processed at (https://egovernancecpcb.co.in/battery/) which is a portal developed by the CPCB as per the SoP;
  3. The process of creating an account with the necessary details which a Producer is required to create to proceed with the filling up of the application, the process of initiating the registration process and submission of application, the processing of application, the requisite fees, etc.;
  4. The Name, Address, etc. of the Producer along with the Battery type and Brand Name, sales data, battery material, etc. which needs to be provided while filing the application for registration;
  5. Once the application is submitted, the Battery constituent recycling targets will be auto generated and such targets will be calculated on the basis of the Battery Collection Targets data and Percentage of Battery Material in different Battery Type and Composition;
  6. Producers/Manufacturers must submit the application for renewal of registration 60 days before the expiry of the Registration along with the necessary documents and the registration will be renewed for a period of 5 years within 15 working days of receipt of complete documents from the Producers/Manufacturer;
  7. The process of cancellation of registration and the conditions under which a suspended or cancelled registration can be re-activated have listed down in the SoP;
  8. The different types of producers along with an explanation regarding the same are also mentioned in the SoP.

Please note that this SoP will be updated from time to time in accordance with the provisions of these Rules and its amendments if any.
