Telangana Labour Department issues guidelines to be followed by shops and establishments in order to operate 24×7

The Telangana Labour Department has recently issued guidelines for granting exemption from the provisions of the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988 (“Act”) with regard to opening and closing hours of an establishment and has stated that a shop or an establishment as defined under the Act, in order to operate 24X7 in the state of Telangana must abide by the following conditions:

  1. Issue ID cards to all employees;
  2. Provide a weekly off and fix weekly working hours with respect to each employee;
  3. Provide overtime wages to employees;
  4. Ensure adequate safety for women employees, obtaining consent before employing them in night shift and providing transport to such women working in night shifts;
  5. Provide a compensatory holiday with wages to employees attending duty, on a notified national /festival holiday;
  6. Maintain records and furnish returns in the manner prescribed by the State Government within the stipulated time;
  7. Ensure compliance with the extant Police Act and Rules; and
  8. Pay an annual fee of Rs. 10000 for each store under the Act to remain open 24X7.
