Amendments underway to Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules; latest standards of accessibility for public buildings gets rolled out; comments invited by 21st July, 2022

Ever since the coming into effect of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act and Rules in the year 2017 is concerned, every establishment is required to comply with the 2016 Harmonised Guidelines and Space Standards for Barrier Free Built Environment for Persons with Disabilities and Elderly Persons relating to physical environment, transport and information and communication technology.

Recently, by way of a draft amendment to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, the latest Standards for public buildings as specified in the Harmonised Guidelines and Standards for Universal Accessibility in India – 2021 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has been rolled out.
