CPCB lays down system and procedure to be followed for complying with the Revised Emission Standards for Power Genset Engines having capacity up to 800 KWs

Pursuant to what we reported earlier in the e-mail below, the Central Pollution Control Board has notified the System and Procedure for Compliance to Revised Emission Standards Power Generating Set Engines (Up-to Gross Mechanical Power 800 KWs).
Key Highlights:
- In order to ensure ease of reference and handling, the document is divided into four separate parts which are individually applicable for all Compression Ignition Engines, Positive Ignition Engines above 800 cc displacement, Portable Generator sets along with a Safety code of practice;
- The document has in detail explained the scope, definitions, procedure, process of approval, labelling requirements, data evaluation methods, etc. for compression ignition engines, positive ignition engines, portable generator sets;
- Requirements for engines except gasoline and diesel have been listed out in the document;
- A number of Annexures are appended to the document which lists out the templates and the requirements in details so that the same can be complied with in a systematic and convenient manner.
Background: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change revised the Emission Standards and limits in the Environment (Protection) Third Amendment Rules, 2022. On the basis of the same, a draft document was issued by the Central Pollution Control Board on 14th February, 2023 inviting comments from the stakeholders by 13th March, 2023. Basis comments and suggestions, the draft document has now been notified by the Central Pollution Control Board.
