CPCB sets up National Control Room to monitor enforcement of Single Use Plastic (SUP) Ban; starting today, daily reports would be prepared on activities undertaken by CPCB and State Authorities

The Central Pollution Control Board (“CPCB”) has established a National Control Room (“NCR”) to monitor the enforcement of Single Use Plastic (“SUP”) ban which has become operational already and will facilitate activities related to the effective implementation of the SUP ban including the following:
a) Provide assistance, guidance, clarification and information regarding ban on SUP items including the specific items covered and excluded from the SUP ban, guidance for filing Complaints on SUP Public Grievance App, guidance for operation of SUP Compliance monitoring portal, alternatives to banned SUP items and their availability in the respective States/UTs, etc. but not limited to the same;
b) Monitor enforcement of SUP ban through the concerned State Authorities and;
c) Coordinate activities related to Awareness campaign on SUP
CPCB has directed the State Pollution Control Boards (“SPCB”) and Pollution Control Committees (“PCC”) to set up a Control Room in a similar manner for effective implementation of SUP ban at State level. The State Boards are required to provide daily reports related to implementation of ban to CPCB. CPCB shall prepare the daily National level Compliance report on SUP ban based on the activities taken up by CPCB/SPCB/PCC.
The State Boards have further been directed to undertake comprehensive awareness activities including social media campaign, interactive meetings with industries, colleges, schools and other institutions on SUP and intensify inspections of industrial and commercial establishment for effective implementation of the ban.
All States/UTs must also ensure that complete information is provided on CPCB Compliance Monitoring Portal and SUP Public Grievance App for facilitation of enforcement and effective monitoring of implementation of SUP ban.
The NCR will operate 7 days a week from 1st July, 2022 till 31st July, 2022 from 9:30 am to 6 pm and must prepare a daily report and submit to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change by 5 pm, based on the activities undertaken by the CPCB and the information provided by various State Pollution Control Boards and Pollution Control Committees.
