Environment Ministry amends E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022; effective 1st April 2023

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has notified the E-Waste (Management) Amendment Rules, 2023 (“Amendment”) to further amend the E-Waste (Management) Rules,2022 (“Rules”). All the provisions of the Rules including the amended provisions will gain effect from 1st April, 2023.
Key Highlights:
- As per the Amendment, every Producer is required to provide the detailed information on the constituents of the equipment and their components or consumables or parts or spares along with a declaration of conformance to the reduction of hazardous substances provisions as and when required by the Central Pollution Control Board. Earlier, the details were required to provide the information in the product user documentation;
- In Schedule II of the Rules, 2 more items, Cadmium and lead in Solar panels/cells, solar Photovoltaic panels/cells/modules and Lead in Medical Devices (with the exception of all implanted and infected products) are added in the Amendment.
