FSSAI notifies Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) First Amendment Regulations, 2022; inserts sub-regulations relating to non-alcoholic counterpart of alcoholic beverage and flavoured beer

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has notified the Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) First Amendment Regulations, 2022 to further amend the Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) Regulations, 2018.
The Amendment introduces definitions of the following terms;
1. “non-alcoholic counterpart of alcoholic beverage” which means non-alcoholic beverage having alcohol content less than or equal to 0.5% alcohol by volume, which must meet all the requirements of respective alcoholic beverage of origin except the ethyl alcohol content. Additionally, the alcoholic beverage of the origin must undergo the process of fermentation and the produced alcohol is removed thereafter.’’
2. “Flavoured Beer” which is beer containing flavours as per the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 and such beer meeting all the other requirements as specified under the regulations.
