Legal Metrology Rules stands amended: Companies with various establishments/branches/units permitted to nominate officials responsible for operations and activities of such establishments/ branches / units under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009

The Department of Consumer Affairs has notified the Legal Metrology (General) Amendment Rules, 2022 to allow companies to nominate officers within the establishment or branch or unit who have the authority and are directly responsible for planning, directing and controlling the activities of the respective establishment or branch or unit and oversee the conduct of business of a company’s establishments, branches or units under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 (“Act”).
This amendment will facilitate companies with different establishments, branches and units to nominate officers responsible for planning, directing and controlling the activities of the establishments or branches or units with regards to the Act. In tune with the above-mentioned change, the format for nomination available in the Thirteenth Schedule of Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011 has been updated.
*“Director”, in relation to a firm, means a partner in the firm but excludes nominated directors, honorary directors, Government nominated directors.
