Ministry of Commerce and Industry notifies ‘Footwear Made from Leather and Other Materials (Quality Control) Order, 2022’; provisions slated to gain effect from 1st July, 2023
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (“Ministry”) has notified the ‘Footwear Made from Leather and Other Materials (Quality Control) Order, 2022’ (“Order”). The provisions of the Order shall gain effect from 1st July, 2023.
The Order prescribes applicable Indian Standards for different types of footwear made from leather or other materials. It further states that such footwear shall bear a Standard Mark prescribed under licence obtained from the Bureau as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Ministry has further clarified that the provisions of the Order will not be applicable to goods or articles meant for export.
