UGC invites suggestions on it draft curriculums “Draft Curriculum on Life Skills (Jeevan Kaushal) 2.0″ and ” Draft Facilitators’ Guidelines for Life Skills Curriculum (Jeevan Kaushal)’

The University Grants Commission has introduced two draft curriculums; The “Draft Curriculum on Life Skills (Jeevan Kaushal) 2.0″ and ” Draft Facilitators’ Guidelines for Life Skills Curriculum (Jeevan Kaushal)”. Key Highlights:
Life skills are considered in three basic categories that complement, supplement, and reinforce each other:
• Social or Interpersonal Skills (Communication, Assertiveness, Cooperation, and Empathy),
• Creative/Thinking Skills (Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Decision-making, and Self-awareness), and
• Emotional Skills (Managing Stress and Emotions and resisting Peer Pressure).
Objectives of the Course
1. Enhance the ability to be fully self-aware by overcoming all fears and insecurities and grow fully from inside-out and outside-in;
2. Increase self-knowledge and awareness of emotional competency and emotional intelligence at the place of study/work;
3. Provide the opportunity for realizing self-potential through practical experience;
4. Develop interpersonal skills and adopt good leadership behaviour for self-empowerment and the empowerment of others;
5. Set appropriate goals; manage stress and time effectively;
6. Manage competency —mix at all levels for achieving excellence.

The Life Skills Programme will have the following courses:
Course 1: Communication Skills
Course 2: Professional Skills
Course 3: Leadership and Management Skills
Course 4: Universal Human Values
Background
Life skills such as communication, cooperation, teamwork, and resilience are one of the fundamental principles of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020) to guide both the education system at large, including the individual institutions. In 2018, UGC had developed a “Curriculum on Life Skills (Jeevan Kaushal)” under its Quality Mandate initiative to impart Soft Skills to undergraduate students. This curriculum has been revised as per the recommendations of NEP 2020. UGC has also prepared a “Facilitators’ Guidelines for the Curriculum on Life Skills (Jeevan Kaushal)”for the effective implementation of this Curriculum.
