Self-certification for SPV inverters extended till 30.06.2022 subject to manufacturers having valid IEC certificates and test reports from international laboratories

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (“MNRE”) has extended the timeline for self-certification for SPV inverters (Power converters for use in photovoltaic power system and Utility- Interconnected Photovoltaic inverters) from 31.12.2021 to 30.06.2022 in view of representations citing limited test facilities and seeking more time for compliance. The extension is subject to the condition that such manufacturers have valid IEC certificates corresponding to Power converters for use in photovoltaic power system and Utility- Interconnected Photovoltaic inverters and test reports from international test laboratories, for smooth implementation of the order.
Background:
The Central Government had issued an Order “Solar Photovoltaics, Systems, Devices and Components Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017“ dated 05.09.2017 for six products namely-
1. Crystalline Silicon Terrestrial Photovoltaic (PV) modules (Si wafer based);
2. Thin-Film Terrestrial Photovoltaic (PV) Modules (a-Si, CiGs and CdTe);
3. PV Module ( Si wafer and Thin film);
4. Power converters for use in photovoltaic power system;
5. Utility –Interconnected Photovoltaic inverters;
6. Storage battery.
The Order however was modified to extend the self- certification for SPV inverters (Power converters for use in photovoltaic power system and Utility –Interconnected Photovoltaic inverters) till 31.12.2021. Now the timeline is extended till 30.06.2022.
