Public comments invited on draft Central Motor Vehicles (…. Amendment) Rules, 2022 by 17th March; proposes vehicle tracking system device (‘Automotive Industry Standard 140’) in goods carriage transporting dangerous/ hazardous goods

The Ministry of Transport has issued the Draft Central Motor Vehicles (…Amendment) Rules 2022 with a view to further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989.
Objections and Suggestions to these draft rules, if any, must be sent to the Joint Secretary (MVL, Transport & Toll), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Transport Bhawan, Parliament Street, New Delhi-110 001 or on the email (comments-morth@gov.in) by 17th March, 2022.
Key Highlights:
As per the Amendment, after clause (iv) of sub-rule (1) of Rule 129 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, a new clause (v) shall be inserted which states the following:
• “every goods carriage carrying any dangerous or hazardous goods shall be equipped with or fitted with a vehicle tracking system device as per AIS 140.”
