Now, salary and wage earners in Gujarat with monthly salaries upto Rs.12,000/- will not be liable to profession tax; gains immediate effect

Now, salary and wage earners with monthly salaries upto Rs.12,000/- will not be liable to profession tax. Previously, profession tax to the tune of Rs.200/- was payable for monthly salaries of Rs.6000/- and above.

The rate of tax remains the same for monthly salary of Rs.12,000/- or more i.e. Rs.200/- per month.

This is in view of Notification dated 8th April, 2022 issued by the Government of Gujarat under the Gujarat State Tax on Professions Traders, Callings and Employments Rules, 1976 (“Principal Rules”) in supersession of the previous notification dated 1st April, 2008 (the same is attached for reference).
