NSE revises the Client Categories in the Unique Client Code database, effective from November 22, 2025

The National Stock Exchange of India (“NSE”) has issued a circular revising the client categories in the Unique Client Code (“UCC”) database. This is done to facilitate ease of identification of Non-Resident External (“NRE”) and Non-Resident Ordinary (“NRO”) clients. The revisions in the client category are effective from November 22, 2025.
Key Highlights:
- The Client Category “NRI” (current UCC category “11”) UCC database must be treated as “NRE”.
- Investor category “37” must be available to facilitate client classification for “NRO”.
- No change is required, in case the UCC has been created for NRE account.
- Trading Members are advised to ensure that all client records are updated accordingly in the UCC database. The classification structure is as follows:
