Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act, 2026 gains effect from 25th May 2026
the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment appoints 25th May 2026 as the date on which provisions of Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act, 2026 (“Amendment Act”) is effective from. The Amendment Act has modified the definition of “transgender person” and has further incorporated additional penalties under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
