Central Government notifies enforcement dates for Jan Vishwas amendments across healthcare, food safety and maritime laws

The Central Government has issued multiple notifications under the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026 appointing dates for bringing into force amendments relating to various sectoral legislations. The notification appoints date on which amendments across healthcare, food safety, ports, shipping and inland waterways laws will come into force..
Key Highlights:
- The provisions of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026 relating to the Pharmacy Act, 1948 have come into force from the date of publication of the notification in the Official Gazette, i.e., 22nd June 2026.
- The provisions relating to the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010 have come into force from the date of publication of the notification in the Official Gazette, i.e., 22nd June 2026.
- The provisions relating to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 will come into force from 1st October 2026.
- The provisions relating to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 will come into force from 30th June 2027.
- The provisions relating to the following Acts will come into force from 1st July 2026:
a. Coastal Shipping Act, 2025
b. Merchant Shipping Act, 2025 and
c. Indian Ports Act, 2025.
- The provisions relating to the following Acts will come into force from 30th June 2026:
a. Inland Waterways Authority of India Act, 1985 and
b. Inland Vessels Act, 2021.
