With a view to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011 the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has issued the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) first Amendment Regulations, 2024 with immediate effect.
Key Highlights:
- With regards to the prohibition on sale of a mixture of two or more edible oils as an edible oil, it has been mentioned that the prohibition will remain inoperative in respect of Multi-Source Edible Oil as specified under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011. Further, Multi-Source Edible Oil may not be sold in a package weighing more than fifteen (15) litres;
- The provision regarding restriction on sale of ghee having less Reichert value than that specified for the area where such ghee is sold and the form prescribed for declaration for selling ghee (Form A) has been omitted;
- Provisions regarding Certification mark for manufacture or storing and sale of infant milk food, infant formula, milk cereal based weaning food, processed cereal based weaning food and follow up formula, condensed milk sweetened, condensed skimmed milk sweetened, milk powder, skimmed milk powder, partly skimmed milk powder, partly skimmed sweetened condensed milk, packaged drinking water and mineral water have been omitted as well;
- Further, the requirement of selling Multi Source Edible Vegetable Oil and fat spread under the AGMARK Certification has been dispensed with.
