Bureau of India Standards amends the Conformity Assessment Regulations

The Bureau of India Standards has issued the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Amendment Regulations, 2026 (“Amendment”) to further amend the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018 (“Principal Regulations”). It has come into effect from 25th February 2026.
Key Highlights:
The Amendment introduces the following changes in the Regulations:
- The fee for grant/continuation of licence to use or apply a Standard Mark will have to be paid on an annual basis in advance at the time of grant of licence and for continuation of operation of a valid licence.
- In case the annual fee with production statement is not received by the due date, the operation of licence will stand suspended for a period of 90 days from the due date, except in cases where the annual fee with production statement is received within the said period along with late fee of rupees five thousand.
- Where the annual fee with production statement if not received within the period of suspension, the licence will be cancelled.
- The fee for grant of certificate of conformity shall be paid on an annual basis in advance at the time of grant of certificate and for its continuation along with the production statement, failing which operation of certificate of conformity shall stand suspended for a period of 90 days from the due date.
- The certificate of conformity will be cancelled except in cases where the annual fee with production statement was received within a period of 90 days along with late fee of rupees five thousand.
- The processing fee for grant and continuation of operation of licence under Scheme II has been reduced from Rupees fifty thousand to twenty-five thousand per application payable in advance on a yearly basis.
- The period for validity of licence to use Standard Mark under Scheme I and II has been extended to 5 years, which may be further renewed for up to another 5 years.
