The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (“Ministry”) has proposed draft amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Objections and suggestions from public are invited on draft amendments till 27th January, 2024.

Key Highlights:
- Rule 138 of Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 prescribes additional safety requirements for motor vehicles like spare wheels, tool kit, retro-reflective triangles etc. for safety purposes Sub-rule (4) clause (d) mandates a driver of motor vehicle must carry a first- aid kit containing a tube of antiseptic cream, sterilised dressing, waterproof plaster etc. for wounds and burns.
- The Ministry proposes compulsory inclusion of a tube of Feracrylum of 1% gel along with existing requirement of Centrimide B.P. in a non-greasy base.
