Deadline for implementing Cyber Security Directions (issued by CERT-In) for MSMEs and validation aspects w.r.t subscriber / customers details for Data Centres, VPS providers, VPN Service Providers extended till 25th September, 2022

The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (“MEITY”) has notified that the CERT-In’s Cyber Security Direction No. 20(3)/2022-CERT-In of 28.04.2022 (“CERT-In Direction”) (please refer to the trailing e-mail for a detailed read) will gain effect on 25th September, 2022 for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, thereby extending the timelines for implementation of the CERT-In Direction in respect of MSMEs with a view to provide reasonable time for generating capacity building required for implementing the same.

Further, the requirement relating to implementing aspects of registration and maintenance of “Validated names of subscribers / customers hiring the services” and “Validated address and contact numbers” by Data Centres, Virtual Private Server (VPS) providers, Cloud Service providers and Virtual Private Network Service (VPN Service) providers incorporated at paragraph no.(v) a.& f of CERT-In Direction, has been extended till 25th September, 2022.

 

Background:

Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the national agency appointed by Central Government for performing specified functions in the area of Cyber Security had issued the CERT-In Directions to augment and strengthen the cyber security in the Country. The Directions have gained effect since 27th June, 2022.

However, an extension in timelines was urged with a view to provide reasonable time for generating capacity building required for implementation of these Directions with respect to MSMEs and also additional time was sought for implementation of mechanism for validation of subscribers/customers by Data Centres, Virtual Private Server (VPS) providers, Cloud Service providers and Virtual Private Network Service (VPN Service) providers.

The present extension has been issued in light of the above-mentioned reasons.
