The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (“DPIIT”) has notified the Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Quality Control) Order, 2024 (“Order”) under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (“Principal Act”) prescribing standards for footwears made from leather and other materials. This Order will gain effect from 1st August, 2024.
If any manufacturer certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (“Bureau”) or any manufacturer, who have applied for Certification to the Bureau before the commencement of this Order, makes a declaration, that they have old footwear stock manufactured or imported without Bureau of Indian Standards Mark, prior to such commencement, they will be allowed to sell, display, or offer to sell that stock until 30th June, 2025.
Goods or articles tabulated below are required to conform to corresponding Indian Standards mentioned below and bear the Standard Mark under a licence from the Bureau as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018:

The provisions specified in this Order shall not extend to domestically produced goods or articles intended for export, nor to Micro and Small manufacturing units as defined in Section 7 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), subject to periodic amendments.
Penalty for contravention: Any person who contravenes the provisions of this Order will be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
