FSSAI compliance with the existing labelling provisions of Coffee-Chicory mixtures; strict action to be taken against violators
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, vide Order dated 11th November, 2021 (summarized in the trail mail) specified labelling requirements of coffee-chicory mixtures and standards for coffee and coffee-chicory mixtures separately under the FSS (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011.
However, recently, upon examining the labels of centrally licensed Food Business Operators (both large and mid-sized manufacturers), it was identified that 29 out of 42 of them were not in compliance with the existing labelling requirements with regard to the Coffee-Chicory mixtures.
In view of this, the FSSAI has directed the Food Safety Departments to ensure that the FBOs comply with the regulatory provisions related to coffee and coffee-chicory mixtures and that strict action is taken against the violators of the same.
