With a view to maintaining transparency and traceability in the licensing framework, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has issued an Order making it mandatory for all Food Business Operators (“FBOs”) whose FSSAI licence or registration has expired during F.Y. 2024–25, and for future cases, to submit a Closure Report. The Closure Report must contain confirmation that no food business activities are being conducted at the respective premises upon expiry of the FSSAI licence or registration, or it must contain confirmation of whether a new licence or registration has been obtained. In the event any FBO decides not to renew its FSSAI licence or registration, or shuts down its operation as an FBO, it must include a specific reason for such non-renewal in the Closure Report.
The submission of the Closure Report must be made through the Food Safety Compliance System (“FosCos”) portal by the concerned FBOs, in line with the User Manual annexed to the Order.
Further, all FBOs have been instructed to ensure that their email ID in the FosCos portal is always up to date, as emails regarding the “Notice for Closure of Food Business” are sent to the registered email ID of the FBOs upon expiry of their FSSAI licence or registration through the Food Safety Compliance System.
