The Department of Electrical Inspectorate, Kerala (“Department”) has issued guidelines for installation of Diesel Generators (“DG”) sets on raised platform. These guidelines have been issued in view of frequent floods in Kerala.
Key Highlights of Guidelines:
- The installation of DG sets will be as per the provisions of National Electric Code 2023/ Indian Standards and Central Electricity Authority (Measures relating to safety and electric supply) Regulations 2023.
- Submission Structural fitness certificate with details of load bearing capacity, rating of generator, weight of generator set etc. from a Competent Structural Engineer during the completion report submission.
- Maintaining all-round clearance of DG set by providing Hand rails/Barrier with passage which does not block the opening doors of DG set.
- Mounting of DG set on anti-vibration pads.
- Providing proper oil drainage facility.
- The built-in fuel tank capacity not to exceed 100 litres or the fuel required for 8 hours of continuous operation, whichever is less.
- Using PESO approved fuel storage at the ground level for storage capacity exceeding 1000 litres.
- Furnishing No Objection Certificate from owner, if DG set installed by tenant.
- The raised platform not to be a part of any kind of building and pathways, parking is not allowed beneath the raised platform.
- Flammable materials/items not to be stored below the platform.
- Metallic parts of the structure to be earthed and equipotential bonding to be ensured.
