Maharashtra exempts Women (earning monthly salary or wage up to Rs. 25000) and Persons with Benchmark Disability from Professional Tax payment

The Government of Maharashtra has recently notified the Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments (Amendment) Act, 2023 (“Amendment”) with immediate effect to further amend the Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1975 (“Act”).

Key Highlights:

1. With effect from 1st April, 2023, women earning salary or wage up to Rs. 25000 will no longer be required to pay professional tax;
2. The Amendment has also widened the scope of exemption for the persons with benchmark disability in accordance with provisions of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
