Maharashtra Legislative Assembly passes Bill to further amend the Maharashtra Tax on Profession, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1975

With a view to amend to amend the Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1975 (“Act”) and to give effect to the proposals contained in the Budget Speech for the Financial Year 2023-24, the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly has recently introduced the Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments
(Amendment) Bill, 2023 (“Bill”). The provisions of the Bill, if enacted are slated to gain effect from 1st April, 2023.
Key proposals of the Bill:
i. To streamline and expand the scope of exemption for the persons with benchmark disability in sync with provisions of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016;
ii. To exempt the professional tax payable by the women who draw the monthly salary or wages up to Rs. 25000
