Ministry of Mines provides procedure for applying to State Government for inclusion of minor mineral on discovering it

The Ministry of Mines has issued the Mineral Concession  (Amendment) Rules, 2026 (“Amendment”) with a view to amend the Mineral Concession Rules, 1960 (“Principal Rules”). It is effective immediately.

Key Highlights:

  1. It states that the holder of a mining lease may apply to the State Government for inclusion of any other mineral, including a minor mineral. Also, the State Government upon receiving a duly completed application, will permit the inclusion within 60 days of the receipt of the application.
  1. It states that the holder of a mining lease which has been granted in respect of a minor mineral, discovers any mineral which is specified under First Schedule to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 in the leased area, is to report it to the State Government within 60 days from the date of discovery.
