Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation issues circular regarding approval of CNG/CBG gas compressors proposed to be installed in the premises covered under Form E, F and G of the Gas Cylinder Rules 2016

The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (“PESO”) has further issued a circular regarding approval of Compressed Natural Gas (“CNG”) / Compressed Bio Gas (“CBG”) gas compressors proposed to be installed in the premises covered under Form E (Licence to fill compressed gas in cylinder), Form F (Licence to store compressed gas in cylinders) and Form G (Licence to dispense compressed natural gas or compressed Bio Gas in a CNG/CBG dispensing station as automotive fuel) of the Gas Cylinder Rules 2016 (“Rules”).
Key Highlights:
1. It has been directed that CNG/CBG compressor package used for filling of gas cylinders and for dispensing as automotive fuel installed in the premises covered under License Form E, F and G of the Rules that were kept in abeyance from obtaining approval from the Chief Controller of Explosives, Nagpur up to 31st March 2026, has been further extended up to 30th September 2026, subject to these conditions:
- All Ex-electrical components installed in the CNG/CBG compressor must be approved by the Chief Controller of Explosives and the approval will be valid as on date.
- An undertaking that all the electrical components installed in the CNG/CBG compressor are of the type approved by the Chief Controller of Explosives must be submitted prior to grant or amendment of the license, as well as during inspection of the premises.
2. CNG/CBG compressor manufacturers have been directed to obtain approval for their compressor packages from the office of the Chief Controller of Explosives by 30th September 2026.
