Public comments invited on the Draft FSS (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, and Prebiotic and Probiotic Food) Regulations, 2022 till 27th August, 2022

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has issued the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, and Prebiotic and Probiotic Food) Regulations, 2022 (“Draft Regulations”).
Objections or suggestions, if any, must be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, FSSAI, FDA Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi- 110002 or sent through email at (regulation@fssai.gov.in) by 27th August, 2022.
Key Highlights:
- The Draft Regulations proposes to include articles of food which are specially processed or formulated for specific nutritional or dietary purpose, Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, Prebiotic food and Probiotic food;
- The Draft Regulations prescribes general requirements such as the delivery format, ingredients, purity criteria, labelling requirements, etc. which the Food Business Operators must comply with for the categories of food covered in these regulations;
- In case of labelling, the Draft Regulations have proposed that the categories specified under the regulations must carry certain information on the label (front or back of the pack) along with the requirements specified under the FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020;
- In addition to these, the Draft Regulations also prescribes specific requirements for the various categories of foods such as Health Supplements, Nutraceutical, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, etc.
