The Ministry of Commerce and Industries has notified amendments to the Static and Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired) Rules, 2016. The key amendments are highlighted below:
Key Highlights
- A pressure vessel for storage or transport of hydrogen has to comply to the following standards accepted by the Chief Controller:
- ISO 17081: method of measurement of hydrogen permeation and determination of hydrogen uptake and transport in metals by an electrochemical technique;
- ISO 10587: Metallic and other inorganic coatings – test for residual embrittlement in both metallic-coated and uncoated externally-threaded articles and rods – Inclined wedge method;
- ISO 16573: Steel – measurement method for the evaluation of hydrogen embrittlement resistance of high strength steels Part 1: Constant load test;
- ISO 15330: Fasteners – preloading test for the detection of hydrogen embrittlement Parallel bearing surface method.
- The fitting requirements for valves for cryogenic pressure vessels must conform to the provisions of ISO-21011 or any code accepted by Chief Controller.
- The periodic testing of in case of pressure vessel for hydrogen service, the fitness for service of the pressure vessel must be carried out as per API 579 Assessment Standards along with the relevant provisions of the standards specified in Rule 13 or any other standard accepted by the Chief Controller.
- The pressure vessel for transport of cryogenic hydrogen must also conform to the relevant provisions of ISO-228-1 or ISO 7-1 or any other code as accepted by the Chief Controller.
