Tamil Nadu Govt. notifies extension to the State-wide COVID-19 restrictions along with additional guidelines for implementation till 10th January, 2021; mandates vaccination for employees and owners of commercial establishments

The Government of Tamil Nadu has notified an extension to the existing lockdown restrictions along with further instructions, to be followed till 10th January, 2022. Public have been directed to avoid moving to crowded places, wear face masks and maintain social distancing by following preventive measures. All commercial establishments are required to follow preventive measures without any lapses.

Key Highlights:

1. Employees and owners of commercial establishments to be compulsorily vaccinated;

2. In public transport buses, the passengers are permitted to travel not exceeding the seating capacity;

3. In metro rails, passengers are permitted to travel while not exceeding fifty (50) percent of the seating capacity;

4. Shops and establishments to ensure that the doors and windows are kept open for cross ventilation. In order to ensure social distancing norms, numerous people will not be allowed at a time inside shops;

5. Entertainment park/ amusement parks shall be permitted to function with 50 percent capacity;

6. Shops are required to ensure mandatory hand sanitizing stations at the entrance and take necessary action to install automated thermal screening;

7. Only essential activities are permitted in the Containment Zones;

8. Restaurants, Gyms, Recreation clubs may allow only 50 percent customers at a time;

Any person violating the above-mentioned measures is liable to be proceeded against as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act besides legal action under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and other legal provisions as applicable.
