The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (“EPFO”) has decided that w.e.f. 1st August 2025, the allotment/generation of UAN for Members/Employees will be done only through the Aadhaar based Face Authentication Technology (FAT) in UMANG App without the intervention of the Employer/EPFO. However, the existing process of generation of UAN through the Employer will continue in respect of exceptional cases like International Workers and Citizens of Nepal and Bhutan.
Background:
EPFO had introduced a simple and robust process for allotment/generation and activation of UAN was introduced in the UMANG APР leveraging Aadhaar based Face Authentication Technology (FAT) for Employees/Members. The detailed User Manual for allotment and activation of UAN through UMANG APP using FAT was introduced. By availing this facility member would gain immediate access to EPFO services such as passbook viewing, KYC updates, claim submission etc.
