The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has extended the timeline for filing of annual returns by registered Producers under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022 (“Rules”) for FY 2024-25 till 30th September, 2025.
Background:
The Rules mandate filing the Annual Return by 30th June of the next financial year by producers regarding the waste batteries collected and recycled or refurbished towards fulfilling obligations under Extended Producer Responsibility. However, there is a provision introduced by a subsequent amendment which states that the Central Government may by order relax timelines for filing of returns up to a period of 9 months by producer, recycler and refurbisher.
