Goa PCB prohibits manufacturing, importing, stocking, distributing, selling and using single use plastic (SUP) items in the State effective 1st July, 2022

In sync with the Notification issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on 12th August, 2021, the Goa Pollution Control Board has, in a recent Public Notice, informed that the following categories of Single Use Plastic (SUP) items are prohibited from being manufactured, imported, stocked, distributed, sold and used in the State effective 1st July, 2022.

The list of prohibited plastic products are as follows:
• Plastic Spoon, Straw, Forks, Stirrer
• Single Use Plastic Cups, Plates, Tumblers
• Styrofoam based decorative items
• Styrofoam/Thermocol plates and cups
• Plastic Packets used for packing fruits and vegetables

Further, carry bags made up of virgin or recycled plastic shall not be less than 75µ in thickness with effect from 30th September, 2021 and not less than 120µ in thickness with effect from 31st December, 2022.

The Approved / permitted plastic carry bags must indicate the name of the manufacturer as well as the Registration No. from the State Pollution Control Board.

Officers notified under the Goa Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, 1996 will conduct inspection and initiate appropriate action in the event of violation.
